Nilnag
Nilnag
Nilnag Lake is a serene fresh-water lake nestled in a dense pine-forest region of the Budgam district in Jammu & Kashmir, just about 4–5 km downhill from Yousmarg and roughly 40–50 km west of Srinagar. Its name reflects its character “Nil” meaning blue and “Nag” meaning lake pointing to its clear, turquoise waters that shimmer against the backdrop of pine forests and distant hills. The lake is a popular spot for peaceful nature-walks, short treks from Yousmarg through forest trails, picnics, and photography, especially during spring and summer when the surroundings are vibrant and accessible. Given its moderate altitude (about 2,390 meters above sea level) and easy accessibility by road and then a short trek, Nilnag makes for an ideal day-trip or a relaxing escape into nature for travellers seeking tranquility away from crowded tourist circuits.
