Zero Bridge

Zero Bridge

Zero Bridge is a historic wooden‑arch pedestrian bridge over the Jhelum River in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, connecting the Sonwar area on the north bank with Rajbagh on the south. Originally built in the late 1950s under the then‑Prime Minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, it once carried vehicular and pedestrian traffic, but by the late 1980s vehicular use was stopped as the wood structure weakened. The bridge measures about 160 metres long and 9 metres wide. After dismantling parts for safety in 2012, it was rebuilt with traditional deodar and walnut wood (avoiding concrete) to keep its heritage look intact; today Zero Bridge serves as a pedestrian walkway and heritage spot, offering peaceful river views, evening strolls and a glimpse of Srinagar’s old‑world charm.
